Lacquer pots

These lacquer pots are handmade using traditional methods, and no two are exactly the same. The craftsman uses genuine lacquer, which is a secretion from thousands of tiny insects found in trees. Different coloured lacs are applied to wooden pots in layers, allowing each layer to dry before applying the next. Then the top layer is skilfully etched to reveal the colours of the layers below. It's a painstaking process to create these richly coloured and beautifully decorated pots, which are ideal for storing jewellery and trinkets, as well as simply being lovely decorative ornaments in their own right.
