Here is the perfect purse made from upcycled products. Handmade from colourful saree fabric, they have a unique decorative trim handwoven from dried banana plant fibres. Banana plants grow extensively in Sri Lanka, and after the fruit cycle is over, the large fibrous stems are usually destroyed. Musaco, a company which employs local women and disabled people, has devised a method of extracting the fibres which, when dried, can be woven or crocheted. With a zip and cream coloured cotton lining, each purse is a labour of love.
