RICE & CARRY UPCYCLING
These upcycled bags, laptop sleeves and cushion covers are made by Rice & Carry, a Fair Trade-registered company on the east coast of Sri Lanka. Their aim is to reduce waste by repurposing the large plastic and hessian sacks that are used to transport rice, grain and spices across Sri Lanka and the rest of Asia. They also make bags woven from discarded fishing nets and items reusing old saris. Whether plastic, hessian sacking, fishing line or sari fabric, the final result is not only beautiful and eco-friendly, but ethical too - the workers that make these bags are paid a fair wage and have embraced the concept of more ingenuity, less waste!
